Getting started:
Enable the Telescope Add-on in Google docs
Give us the name and description of a character you’re working on
Download the Telescope app
Get away from your desk with a pair of headphones on
Bookmark anything you like the sound of
Get back to your desk where you’ll find all of your bookmarks magically back in the Add-on
Use your bookmarks to shake up you’re writing!
Telescope uses your phone’s camera to recognise objects you walk past, points of interest surrounding you using GPS, up to the minute weather and the time of day to seed the GPT-2 language model. Using text-to-voice, the app speaks back unexpected ideas that use machine learning to combine your character name and description with your phone’s sensors. The results could be poignant, banal, topical or down-right hilarious. Anything you bookmark will be fed back into the system to give you similar responses.
Developed in collaboration between Google’s Creative Lab in Sydney and Sandpit.
